Eric Theodore Carlson collection finding aid, part 2
This is the second part of a two part finding aid for the
Eric Theodore Carlson collection. This part features the scope and content note
and the container list.
Scope and Content:
This collection consists of letters and correspondence sent
between Eric Carlson and his family as well as school officials, prospective
employers, and Army officials from 1944-1946. The letters document Carlson’s years
in college, his time in the Army, and the initial months of school and work
after his discharge from the Army. It also gives some insight into what the Army
was doing on the home front during the last years of World War II, particularly
the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, and New England regions of the United States.
Container List:
This collection would be arranged into three series:
The first series, Army, would contain letters and memos,
along with corresponding documents, that were sent between Mr. Carlson and the
Army before, during, and after his time in the service. The folders would be arranged
chronologically based on the dates of the contents within each folder.
The second series, Family and Friends, would contain letters
and other correspondence sent between Mr. Carlson and his family and friends.
The folders would be arranged alphabetically by recipient/sender’s last name.
The third series, College, would contain letters and
documents related to his undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate education.
The folders would be split into three subseries; one for each college or
university he attended. The subseries would be arranged in order of education
level. Within each subseries, the folders would be arranged chronologically
based on the dates of the contents within each folder.
